About this episode
This week on Drew Blood’s Dark Tales, author William Dalphin presents “A Tiller of the Ground,” a haunting tale of childhood terror, religious conviction, family secrets, and the terrible danger of being absolutely certain you know where evil resides. On an isolated family farm, faith runs deep, obedience is expected, and the difference between good and evil seems as clear as heaven and hell. For one young boy, there is no safer place than home. He has loving parents, an older brother he idolizes, and the certainty that God watches over those who remain faithful. But when something impossible begins moving through the fields after dark, that certainty starts to crumble. The old scarecrow has stood watch over the crops for generations. By daylight, it is nothing more than burlap, discarded clothes, and straw. At night, however, the boy becomes convinced that something is hiding behind its black button eyes—and that whatever has come to his family’s farm has designs on the people he loves most.
