About this episode
How have we not covered this yet? This week, we're heading to the strangest nursing home in movie history with Don Coscarelli's Bubba Ho-tep (2002), the cult horror-comedy that asks one unforgettable question: What if Elvis Presley and John F. Kennedy teamed up to fight an ancient Egyptian soul-sucking mummy? Starring the living legend Bruce Campbell as an aging Elvis who insists he swapped identities with an impersonator years before and Ossie Davis as a Black man who believes he's the real JFK, Bubba Ho-tep blends absurd comedy, heartfelt drama, and supernatural horror into one of the most original cult films ever made. Join us as we unpack the film's offbeat premise, memorable performances, surprising emotional depth, and why this low-budget oddity has earned such a devoted following. We'll explore its themes of aging, identity, friendship, and mortality while celebrating the bizarre charm that makes Bubba Ho-tep truly unlike anything else. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering this cult classic for the first time, grab your favorite snack, watch out for scarabs, and settle in for a conversation that's equal parts hilarious, heartfelt, and wonderfully weird.
