Then a young woman with bright red hair, ruined makeup, and someone else’s drink drying on her clothes takes the neighboring stool. She introduces herself as Lucifer, though she’s happy to answer to Lucy. Concerned that she needs help, the narrator offers to call someone. Lucy would prefer a cocktail and a chance to tell her story. Her proposition seems simple: hear her out before deciding what to do about her.
